Fire Protection and Evacuation
Burke Ranch participates in Firewise USA, a collaborative framework allowing communities and organizations to work together to become more wildfire resistant. The program is administered by the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA), is completely voluntary, and is endorsed and sponsored by CalFire and other fire Agencies. Some insurance providers are becoming Firewise partners and provide discounts for communities that have Firewise certification. Residents can contact their insurance provider to ask for the discount.
Burke Ranch was first certified as a Firewise community in 2021, and because of our ongoing community activities and preparedness efforts we were recertified in 2022. Some of our community activities include emergency response and evacuation exercises, tabletop exercises, Evacuation MapEX, and neighborhood chipping. We have a dedicated Firewise Bulletin board, evacuation route signage throughout the community, and an evacuation route map (see Evacuation Plan tab).
Funding is available for Firewise communities through grants issued by CALFIRE, California Firesafe Council and the Amador Firesafe Council. Burke Ranch has applied and been approved for projects related to road assessment and program start up, as well as awarded funds from State Farm that were used for the reflective address program signs.
